Taylor, who played for the University of North Carolina, was seen as an impact player before he even suited up for his first NFL game and was often compared to the likes of Dick Butkus. In his rookie season Talyor compiled 9.5 sacks as he became the first rookie to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year honors. Throughout his career Taylor would help lead the Giants to two Super Bowl titles.
