Seven years earlier, the New York Mets joined the National League as an expansion team. The Mets had yet to post a winning record as they entered the 1969 season. Mets pitching ace Tom Seaver was nothing less then terrific during the 1969 season. Seaver posted 25 wins, collecting his first career Cy Young Award. The Mets became amazin' as they posted 100 wins and defeated the Atlanta Braves for the National League pennant. In the 1969 World Series the Mets were heavily overmatched by the Baltimore Orioles. The Orioles succumbed to the Mets in just five games, and the Mets ended their first winning season with a World Series title.
