In 1964, Judge Roy Hoefheinz, who had a controlling share in the major league team, was fighting a lawsuit with the Colt Firearms Company over the use of the "Colt .45" name. But as the team prepared to move into a new, futuristic stadium, the judge consulted NASA astronauts about honoring them with a new nickname for the Houston team. By 1965, the Houston Colts had moved to the Astrodome, and had adopted the new moniker of the Houston Astros.
