The 1969 season marked the 100th Anniversary of the forming of the Cincinnati Red Stockings, the first professional baseball club. Each team wore a patch on their jersey commemorating this event. The Chicago Cubs created a memorable summer for their fans as they made a run at the National League pennant. The Cubs fell short of catching the Amazing Mets as the curse of the goat remained within Wrigleyville. The summer of 1969 also heard Bank's famous catch-phrase, "Let's play two," for the first time as Bank's tried to cheer up his gloomy team mates in 100 degree weather.
